Debuting in September 2009, the SafeDrive MiniDVR is Safety Vision's new windshield-mounted, event-based mobile DVR--an onboard surveillance solution designed to improve mobile operations, enhance driver safety, and reduce risk for public and commercial fleets. The SafeDrive features a compact footprint, easy installation, two integrated surveillance cameras, post-event snapshot recording, GPS tracking, and an internal battery backup for continuous recording. In this sample video clip from the first generation SafeDrive model, the driver narrowly avoids a pile-up as he chats up the girlfriend on his cellphone—and its all caught on camera. (A driver safety advocate, Safety Vision's advise is: "Put it in your pocket 'til you park it!") The clip shows video from a forward-facing road-view camera and a rear-facing cabin-view camera, as displayed by the SafeDrive system's viewing software GUI. With SafeDrive, video is automatically recorded when a vehicle operator is speeding or driving erratically, when the driver/operator manually presses the Event Save button, or when a crash occurs. Also recorded and tracked are GPS map coordinates, G-force data, vehicle speed, event trends, and audio. All this data can be accessed by the SafeDrive MiniDVR data management portal software, which provides advanced and powerful playback, search, and export features as well as quantifiable tools for event trends and event location that may be plotted in Google Map views. The following movie is a collection of pictures I've taken over the past 2 years. The collection of loads in this movie shows the hard work and danger that these drivers face everyday, so I thought this was appropriate to use for a tribute to truckers. We are sincerely grateful for what you do for our nation and it's people (remember, everything you have came on a truck!), and I hope that movies like this help others become closer to realizing what being a trucker really is. Hope you enjoy! All of these pictures are shot from a parking lot facing Interstate 81 northbound near Roanoke, Virginia. All of the loads in this movie are flatbed/oversized. Have been on the road only a few weeks -- still in the testing/adjusting phase, but so far it looks like this: Bike has a lot (too much) low end torque so it is pretty quick from a standing start. However, the top speed right now is about 45mph. Since I started with a low 6:1 gear ratio, I have plenty of room to change gearing for more top speed -- however, since I use this locally (mostly on 35mph ...
