Maybe we should consider changing the rules

Of course winning is nice, but the camaraderie and fun we have at team tournament IS the prize, and we can do that fine without GMs playing. Maybe we could do something like bringing the GMs in to do simuls or teach classes that go on either during the tournament or between rounds. Perhaps Bill Conrad is right, and it would be ideal for grandmasters to be sponsored for such tournaments as the Amateur Team tournaments for simuls and educational purposes and not to play for particular teams.
It is unfortunate that the organizers are not equipped to offer star players hotel, plane, or expenses...I couldnt disagree more. No, of course didnt win, nor did expect to even for second.
Some best names have been controversial, including last years Touch Me Nuts winner. The whole point of an AMATEUR team tournament is to have AMATEURs playing and having fun. To tip the scales that much so that GMs would be provided hotels, flights, etc., would ruin everything that make it an AMATEUR tournament, and there would be no point in even holding it. I dont think anyone is BLAMING you for getting GMs to play, even by paying them it is the rules that allow it, and youre not breaking the rules by doing it.
Nowadays, many dont even sign autographs except on specially arranged occasions and for exorbitant fees. Feldstein has problem with last years winner, and labels it controversial. didnt participate last year, but isnt the prize decided by fellow players votes? If the largest number of votes went to Touch Me Nuts, dont see why that team shouldnt win. was able to pay the expenses for GM and player with two GM norms thanks to truck driven by Prime Trucking running into my car and causing 545 worth of damage.No tags for this post.
